Networked Learning Project

For my CEP 810 class, we have been asked to learn something that we have always wanted to know how to do. The kicker is that we can only use YouTube and online help forums. As I was thinking about possible ideas, I noticed a few of the ‘reject’ save the date envelopes, crumpled and covered in what I had deemed ‘ugly’ handwriting, I had sitting by my pile of wedding planning things. I thought back to the tedious process of addressing the envelopes and wishing my handwriting was prettier. I had considered hiring a calligrapher to do the actual invitations, but with all of the other wedding costs piling up that extra fee seemed frivolous. Previously, I hadn’t considered learning and addressing the envelopes myself, but this project was just be the extra push I needed to give calligraphy a whirl!

I did a quick Google search of possible sources of guidance, and I quickly found various websites that offer the beginning learner suggested materials to get started and . Next, I went to YouTube and I was happy to find many videos for beginning calligraphers. I will be exploring different styles to focus in on the one that I find will work best for my wedding invitations. I am excited to begin this new and exciting challenge!

Learning, Understanding, and Conceptual Change Essay

In my CEP 810 class this week, I have been asked to write an essay that explores learning, understanding, and conceptual change. Reading the first three chapters of Bransford, Brown & Cocking’s (2000) How People Learn provided me with some time to sit back and reflect on what I am doing well as a teacher and also how I can improve my own teaching. I have written about the importance of understanding your students’ background knowledge. Also featured is the importance of designing learning experiences that set students up for future transfer of learning. I also discuss a few teaching methods that can improve student learning.
